Five adults stand in a shadowy room, their childhood memories casting shadows on the walls. Five bags in their hands, each containing bitter memories and buried histories. Five beds, perfectly arranged and ready to welcome five youngsters who have been separated from their family. Five lives were stolen.

Sydney Theatre Company is delighted to welcome back Muruwari author Jane Harrison (The Visitors), who first wrote this iconic Australian drama in 1998. Following his blockbuster smash and STC directorial debut Constellations, STC Resident Director and Wilman Noongar man Ian Michael will direct this daring new production of a play that is still as powerful, affecting, and urgently relevant as the day it premiered.

Stolen explores the story of Jimmy, Ruby, Shirley, Sandy, and Anne, five members of the Stolen Generation whose lives were irreversibly changed by their experiences in a social and political system that aimed to obliterate their cultural identity for good.

Stolen is essential viewing as a record of Australian history, a deeply touching human story, and a galvanizing light shone on the ongoing injustices faced by the First Nations people. With an incredible cast featuring Waanyi, Djiru, Kuku Yalanji, and Yidinji actor Jarron Andy, Truwulway and Nunga actor Kartanya Maynard (Amazon Prime’s Deadloch), and Martu actor Stephanie Somerville (Chalkface),
