Kurinuki Pottery Workshop – A Mindful Japanese Clay Experience

Discover the beauty of simplicity and slow creativity in this hands-on Kurinuki pottery workshop, inspired by a traditional Japanese technique that means “to hollow.”

In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll start with a solid block of clay and gradually carve it away to reveal a unique, organic vessel — a piece that reflects your own creative expression.

Embrace Imperfection & Intuition

Kurinuki is not about perfection or symmetry. Instead, it celebrates imperfection, texture, and spontaneity. You’ll be encouraged to work intuitively, letting the clay guide your hands as your piece takes shape.

The process is deeply calming, tactile, and meditative — perfect for slowing down, disconnecting from daily stress, and reconnecting with creativity.

What You’ll Learn

  • Traditional Kurinuki carving techniques
  • How to shape and refine clay into functional forms
  • Creative approaches to texture and organic design
  • Foundations of pottery in a relaxed, supportive setting

What You’ll Create

During the session, you’ll craft up to two functional ceramic pieces, such as:

  • Hand-carved cups
  • Small bowls

Your finished pieces will be professionally dried, fired, and glazed using studio glazes, ready for collection at a later date.

Small Group, Personal Guidance

  • Maximum of 8 participants per class
  • Step-by-step instruction with live demonstrations
  • Plenty of one-on-one support from experienced instructors

Why You’ll Love It

  • Beginner-friendly and accessible
  • Relaxing, mindful creative process
  • Learn a traditional Japanese pottery technique
  • Create meaningful, handmade pieces to keep
