Explore a Landmark of Industrial Heritage

Built between 1912 and 1917, White Bay Power Station once powered Sydney’s extensive tramway network — the largest in the Southern Hemisphere — as well as trains and the city’s suburban electricity grid.

Its commanding harbourside presence, defined by dramatic vertical architecture, castellated parapets, and towering steam funnels, remains an enduring symbol of Sydney’s industrial past and the gateway to the Balmain waterfront.

What You’ll Experience

  • Guided access to rarely seen areas of the power station
  • Exploration of hidden and restricted spaces
  • Insights into the building’s engineering, architecture, and history
