A Story Written in the Sky
Star-Bound reimagines drone light shows as a poetic, cinematic journey through creation and transformation. Rather than presenting isolated visual moments, the performance unfolds as a continuous narrative exploring themes of life, hope, renewal and cosmic evolution.
The experience begins with thousands of glowing lights rising into the night sky, forming a spiralling structure that symbolises the origins of life. This evolves into natural and cosmic forms — from a delicate fern to ancient sea life, from crashing ocean waves to drifting celestial particles.
As the story expands, stars travel through space and time toward a vast cosmic portal, ultimately collapsing into darkness before rebirthing into a powerful explosion of light — a symbolic Big Bang that creates new galaxies, nebulae and infinite possibility.
Creative Vision & Soundscape
Star-Bound is designed as both a visual and emotional experience, synchronised to an atmospheric score blending orchestral composition with pulsating electronic soundscapes. The music is composed by acclaimed Australian artist Antony Partos, enhancing the sense of scale and immersion as the story unfolds above the harbour.
The drone choreography is directed by Melanie Horkan (Vivid Sydney) and Sammy Gooch (SKYMAGIC), pushing the boundaries of aerial performance technology and large-scale public art.
