Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 Live in Sydney

Leading the night is Nigerian Afrobeat powerhouse Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, carrying forward the revolutionary musical legacy of his father, the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.

Seun joined the iconic Egypt 80 band as a child musician before officially taking leadership of the group at just 14 years old following Fela Kuti’s passing in 1997. Since then, he has become one of the most influential modern voices in Afrobeat, blending politically charged music with irresistible rhythms and explosive live energy.

Over the years, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 have released critically acclaimed records including:

  • Black Times – Grammy-nominated album
  • Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) – featuring collaborations with Sampa the Great, De La Soul and Kamasi Washington

Known for their fierce brass sections, hypnotic grooves and commanding stage presence, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 deliver live performances that are equal parts celebration, protest and musical mastery.

Tjaka Brings Indigenous Energy to Tumbalong Park

Joining the lineup is Tjaka, the Brisbane-based Indigenous-led trio renowned for their explosive fusion of reggae, hip-hop, funk and electronic sounds with deep Indigenous musical traditions.

Formed by brothers Geoff and Jake Fabila, descendants of the Jabirr Jabirr people of the Kimberley region in Western Australia, alongside longtime friend Felix Fogarty, Tjaka have earned a reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting live acts.

The group incorporates innovative custom instruments including:

  • Didjeribone – a slide didgeridoo-inspired instrument
  • FaceBass – a seismic microphone system producing deep bass vibrations

Their high-energy performances combine ancient cultural influences with modern electronic grooves, creating a uniquely Australian live music experience.
