Firedoor, Surry Hills | A Collaborative Wood-Fired Event

As part of the inaugural Regional Dinner Series, Vivid Sydney 2026 brings together two masters of elemental cooking for an exclusive culinary collaboration. Ben Devlin, the executive chef and co-owner of the acclaimed Pipit in Pottsville, joins forces with Lennox Hastie, the fire-fascinated owner of Sydney’s multi-award-winning Firedoor, to celebrate the rich flavors of the NSW Northern Rivers.

Coastal Precision & Northern Rivers Soul

Freshly named on the prestigious 2025 Best Chef List, Ben Devlin is renowned for a “Tweed sensibility” that prioritizes sustainable seafood and hyper-local coastal produce. Having grown up in the Northern Rivers, Devlin’s approach is a sophisticated blend of modern wood-fired techniques and foundational expertise gained at some of the world’s most awarded restaurants.

In this special event, he brings his passion for regional storytelling to Surry Hills, pairing his coastal expertise with Hastie’s unparalleled precision in open-flame cooking.

The Inaugural Regional Dinner Series

The Regional Dinner Series is a citywide centerpiece of the Vivid Food program, designed to highlight the diverse culinary identities of New South Wales. Spanning Sydney’s finest dining rooms, the series features seven unique pairings across 12 events, where acclaimed regional chefs take over city kitchens to hero the ingredients, winemakers, and brewers of their home turf.

Event Highlights

The Collaboration: A one-off menu co-created by Ben Devlin and Lennox Hastie, focusing on wood-fired excellence.

Hero Ingredients: A showcase of premium Tweed Coast produce, from sustainable seafood to hinterland harvest.

The Setting: The intimate, high-energy environment of Firedoor, where every dish is touched by coal, flame, or smoke.

This collaboration is a rare opportunity to experience the best of regional NSW without leaving the city. It stands alongside other headline events in the series, including the highly anticipated A Shared Table with Yotam Ottolenghi.
