Joanna Murray-Smith, a celebrated Australian playwright, revives Chekhov’s tragicomedy Uncle Vanya, which premieres at Ensemble Theatre.

On a decaying country home, Uncle Vanya and his niece Sonya fight tirelessly to keep their family’s privileges. It’s a lonely, monotonous existence, with just the village doctor Astrov paying visits. That is, until the unexpected arrival of Sonya’s father, Professor Serebryakov, and his beautiful new wife Yelena, which triggers long-buried passions with disastrous repercussions.
