Raised in East London’s Isle of Dogs, Hak Baker has swiftly earned iconoclastic status.

On his 2017 debut EP, Misfits, Baker evolved out of the grime scene with a genre-scuffing sound he calls “G-folk” or “guv’nor folk” – working-class stories of resilience with a Cockney drawl.

He’s since earned a cadre of fans including The Streets (who tapped the newcomer for a 2020 collab), Fontaines D.C., Slowthai, Skepta and Pete Doherty. That powerhouse support makes sense – Baker’s music matches vibe-hopping production with unfiltered, street-level storytelling.

On his breakout 2023 album, Worlds End FM, Baker presented his most complete statement yet in the style of a pirate radio broadcast on the edge of the apocalypse, from the light-on-its-feet protest song “Windrush Baby” to the urgent and propulsive “Telephones 4 Eyes”, which is readymade for his riotous live shows.

With Baker making his Australian debut, the end of the world never sounded so good.
