Brian Robinson is a celebrated Torres Strait artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, and design. His work draws deeply on the rich cultural heritage of the Torres Strait, exploring themes of mythology, cosmology, and spirituality while reinterpreting them through a distinctly contemporary lens.

Raised on Waiben (Thursday Island), Robinson’s artistic voice is shaped by island life, storytelling traditions, and a strong connection to sea country. His works often incorporate unexpected contemporary references—from video games to Hollywood films—blending popular culture with traditional narratives. This fusion creates a unique visual language that reflects Islander identity, humour, resilience, and everyday life, including the enduring cultural importance of fishing and community.

His exhibition, *Ur Wayii (Incoming Tide)*, is an ambitious and immersive multidisciplinary showcase that brings together printmaking, sculpture, video, and graphic design. The exhibition unfolds as a layered and intricate narrative, weaving together ancestral knowledge, historical memory, and contemporary global influences.

Through *Ur Wayii (Incoming Tide)*, Robinson invites audiences to engage with a dynamic cultural dialogue—where tradition meets modernity, and local stories resonate within a global context. The exhibition stands as a powerful testament to the evolving nature of Torres Strait Islander art, offering both a celebration of heritage and a bold exploration of identity in today’s interconnected world.
