This summer, *Ron Mueck: Encounter* brings an extraordinary and unmissable selection of works by internationally acclaimed Australian artist Ron Mueck to Art Gallery of New South Wales—in a major Sydney-exclusive exhibition.
Since redefining contemporary figurative sculpture in the late 1990s, the Melbourne-born artist has become renowned for his astonishingly lifelike creations. Mueck’s sculptures are celebrated for their hyperreal detail and emotional depth, capturing the subtleties of human expression and experience with remarkable precision. Working across dramatically varied scales—from monumental figures to miniature forms—his work explores universal themes such as birth, mortality, vulnerability, isolation, and human connection.
At the heart of the exhibition is *Havoc*, a powerful new immersive installation created especially for this presentation. Featuring a group of larger-than-life fighting dogs, the work is both physically imposing and psychologically charged. While oversized in scale, *Havoc* carries an eerie stillness and tension, drawing viewers into a space that feels simultaneously intimate, confrontational, and deeply unsettling.
*Ron Mueck: Encounter* invites audiences to engage with sculpture in a profoundly physical and emotional way. The exhibition brings together key works from across Mueck’s career alongside new pieces, creating a dialogue between past and present. Through these encounters, visitors are encouraged to reflect on the fragility, complexity, and shared nature of human experience—particularly within the context of today’s uncertain and rapidly changing world.
Marking Mueck’s most significant solo exhibition in Australia in over a decade—and his first in Sydney since 2003—this landmark showcase offers a rare opportunity to experience his work on an unprecedented scale.
