The Art Gallery of New South Wales, with its stunning setting on Sydney Harbour on Gadigal land, is one of Australia’s flagship art museums and the state’s major visual arts institution. The Art Gallery is one of Australia’s best tourist attractions and a must-see for an art and cultural experience in Sydney.
Each year, about two million people visit the paintings Gallery and its extensive collection of paintings. Located in magnificent parklands overlooking Sydney Harbour, just a 15-minute walk from the city core. The majority of exhibitions and events are free to attend.
The Art Gallery will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2021, and in 2022, it will complete a large extension through the Sydney Modern Project, which will transform the art museum into two buildings united by a public art garden. In 2024, the two structures were given Aboriginal language names: Naala Badu (seeing waters) for the north building and Naala Nura (seeing country) for the south building.
Dine at Crafted by Matt Moran or MOD. Clayton Wells has done some dining. Enjoy refreshments from the Gallery Café or Kiosk, which includes a takeout menu with each item handpicked by Indigenous Elder Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo and incorporating local Australian products.
