The Art Gallery of New South Wales is more than a museum — it’s a living cultural experience. Whether you’re attending a festival, family day, artist talk, or creative workshop, every visit offers a new way to see, feel, and connect through art.
Each year, about two million people visit the paintings Gallery and its extensive collection of paintings. Located in magnificent parklands overlooking Sydney Harbour, just a 15-minute walk from the city core. The majority of exhibitions and events are free to attend.
The Art Gallery will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2021, and in 2022, it will complete a large extension through the Sydney Modern Project, which will transform the art museum into two buildings united by a public art garden. In 2024, the two structures were given Aboriginal language names: Naala Badu (seeing waters) for the north building and Naala Nura (seeing country) for the south building.
