The Kookaburras have won their first World Cup in 24 years, defeating Germany 2-1 in the 2010 World Cup final in New Delhi, India.

Despite some close calls Germany could not break through the determined Kookaburras defence, with Australia holding on to win a memorable final and re-establish themselves as the best team in the world.

The Kookaburras will meet Germany for the third consecutive World Cup final after defeating the Netherlands 2-1 during the semi final in New Delhi, India.

With Germany having won the two previous finals against Australia in 2002 and 2006, the Kookaburras will be looking to gain some revenge when the 2010 final is played on Saturday 13 March.

“We lost Sachin early but Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag provided the ideal start. Then Yuvraj Singh played well. The platform was given for me to come and do my stuff. We knew that with five overs of Powerplay left, if we can take it at 38 or 40 overs we can always get to a big total. One of those innings that was good. The wicket was good and I exploited that.” Dhoni man of the match

“I can keep a much lower profile, which is enjoyable, And then if someone’s looking at me, I’m like! Why are they staring at me? What’s wrong? Have I got something on my face? I’ve had lots [of fans] dressed as versions of me. I’ve had flight attendants, robots, showgirls, all of them – from three-year-olds up.” she said

“There’s nothing bad about it because like South Africa and Sri Lanka in the last T20, you can win all your matches in the first stage and then suddenly lose a big game, It will be good for us, sometimes it’s good for a team to be defeated, it makes you tougher.” said Younus.
